What we collect

Your ZIP code and your usage never leave your browser while you're comparing plans. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which plans get clicked. We never collect your name, email, phone number, or payment details, and we never sell anything about you. When you click through to enroll, your ZIP, your usage, and the plan you picked go to Compare Power, and their privacy policy takes over from there.

What happens when I type my ZIP code?

Nothing gets sent anywhere. The ZIP lookup and every plan calculation run inside your browser, using data that was baked into the page when the site was built. There is no form submission, no lookup call, and no server that receives your ZIP. You can open your browser's network tab while you type and watch nothing happen.

The usage buttons work the same way. Choosing 500, 1,000, or 2,000 kWh just re-sorts a list that is already sitting in your browser.

What does Google Analytics collect?

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how many people find the site and whether it actually helps them. It sets cookies in your browser (their names start with_ga) and records the standard things: pages viewed, roughly where you are based on your IP address, your device and browser, and how you got here.

On top of that we send three events of our own. This is all of them, and everything they carry:

• When you check a ZIP: whether that area is deregulated, and which utility owns the poles and wires there. Not the ZIP code itself.
• When plans appear: the utility territory, the usage level you picked, and how many plans were shown.
• When you click through to a plan: the plan ID, the provider name, the utility territory, your usage level, that plan's rate and estimated monthly bill, and the visitor token described below.

Google's terms for what they do with that data are atpolicies.google.com/privacy. If you run an ad blocker or a privacy extension, it almost certainly blocks all of this already, and the site works exactly the same without it.

What is the visitor token, and why does it exist?

The first time you visit, your browser generates a random token and saves it in local storage under tps_vid. It looks liketps.mtgov3e2.knt40m06. It is random. It is not derived from anything about you, and it cannot be turned back into a name, an address, or a device.

Here is the honest reason it exists. We get paid a commission when someone enrolls, but the enrollment finishes on Compare Power's site, not ours. Without a token we would know a commission arrived and have no idea which visit earned it. The token rides along with your click and comes back attached to the commission report, so we can tell which parts of this site actually help people and which are wasting your time.

You can delete it any time by clearing site data for this site in your browser. A new random one gets created on your next visit.

What leaves this site when I click through to enroll?

The enroll button sends you to Compare Power, our marketplace partner. The link carries the plan you picked, the usage level you chose, your ZIP code, our affiliate ID, and the visitor token. Nothing else, because nothing else exists on our side.

From that point you are on Compare Power's site and their privacy policy applies, not ours. Anything you type into the actual enrollment, your name, your service address, your account details, you are giving to them and to the electricity provider.We never collect payment information, on this site or anywhere else.

The site also links out to official Electricity Facts Labels hosted by the providers, and to powertochoose.org, the state's own site. Those are ordinary links. Once you follow one, that site's rules apply instead of these.

What do you receive back after an enrollment?

Compare Power reports our commissions to us: which provider, which plan, the amount, the date, and the visitor token that brought the click. That is what we need to get paid and to keep the 10% giving ledger honest.

Their system can also return customer names and service addresses to brokers who have signed a data-use agreement under PUCT rule 25.486. We have not signed one and have not enabled that access. We do not need your identity to do this job, so we would rather not hold it.

Do you sell my information?

No. We do not sell, rent, or trade anything about you, and we do not run advertising or share data with ad networks. The only money in this business is the commission a provider pays when you enroll, which isdisclosed before every recommendation.

What about server logs?

The site is hosted on Vercel. Like every web host, their servers keep standard request logs that include IP addresses. We do not build profiles from them and we do not connect them to anything else described on this page.

How do I opt out?

• Clear cookies and site data for texaspowersearch.com in your browser. That removes the analytics cookies and the visitor token together.
• Install Google's official Analytics opt-out add-on, which blocks Google Analytics everywhere, not just here.
• Use any ad blocker, or a browser with tracking protection turned on. Analytics stops and the plan comparison keeps working.
• Email victor@texaspowersearch.com and ask what we hold on you. Given everything above, the honest answer is almost always "nothing we could tie to you."

Is this site for children?

No. It is built for the person who pays the electricity bill, and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, email victor@texaspowersearch.comand we will delete it.

Who is responsible, and how do I reach them?

Texas Power Search LLC, Frisco, Texas. Registered electricity broker with the Public Utility Commission of Texas, #BR240033. Questions about anything on this page go tovictor@texaspowersearch.com, and a person reads them.

If we change what we collect, we will change this page and move the date below. We will not quietly start collecting something new and leave this page the way it was.
